After Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull crash landed in theaters in 2008, many fans hoped and prayed that the franchise had finally been put to bed. But rumors persisted that George Lucas and Steven Spielberg were potentially eyeing a fifth installment in the series. However, in a recent interview with Collider, producer Frank Marshall revealed that Indiana Jones 5 will probably never materialize.

“I say, for me, [Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is] the last hurrah. I know that yes, we talk about it, but there’s no idea, there’s no MacGuffin,” Marshall told the site.

With Spielberg busy with other projects, Harrison Ford getting older and older, and Lucas having retired from the film industry, it’s clear that Indy 5 just wasn’t meant to be. And we can’t honestly say that we’re too broken-hearted about it.
