The space core, everyone's secret favorite AI core from Portal 2, will achieve his dream once again when he's launched into space - Yes, real space - on a mission to the International Space Station.

Well, at least he will in spirit. An anonymous tech at NASA laser-engraved an image of the little, round guy with the quote "in spaaaaaaace" written below it on a piece of the Japanese HTV-3 Resupply craft, which will head to the ISS on Friday, July 27th at 10:06 Eastern.

"NASA in no way officially endorses secretly laser-engraving characters from Portal onto their spacecraft," the Portal 2 blog writes. "Believe it or not, they don't even officially endorse Portal 2, despite the fact that it's a really excellent game." That said, Valve can take solace in the fact that they clearly have a fan or two that could, conceivably, help Gabe Newell bring Steam to the martians.

(By the way, you didn't hear about that from us.)

If you're interested in seeing Wheatley off, NASA will be streaming the launch on their website. The broadcast begins at 9am Eastern this Friday.
