It’s been a while since we’ve heard any news regarding Peter Jackson’sThe Hobbit, and just when we were beginning to lose hope, Entertainment Weekly came along with these great new photos from the movie that should hold hardcore Tolkien fans over until the film's December release date. Jackson is splitting The Hobbit into two parts—The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again—so we’re not sure which part these images are from, but they are spectacular nonetheless.

What is immediately evident in these images is that Jackson has kept the same style and overall look of the previous Lord of the Rings trilogy intact. This means that Ian McKellan's Gandalf and the CGI model of Gollum look just as they did in the originals. We’re also given looks at Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins and some of the dwarves of Middle Earth.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be released on December 14 of this year and The Hobbit: There and Back Again will hit theaters on December 13, 2013.
