Through their respective reps, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have announced that they will be getting divorced after five years of marriage.
Apparently it was Katie who filed the papers. According to TMZ, Tom was "blindsided" by the drastic action. "Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children," Tom's rep announced in an official statement. "Please allow them their privacy to work this out."
It's not clear what exactly caused the marriage to dissolve, but legal documents cite "irreconcilable differences."
Few, if any, assets and earnings will change hands in the matter, however, as Tom and Katie were both protected with a solid prenuptial agreement. Together their net worth is about $275 million, with Tom raking in the majority of the cash over the span of the marriage.
But what about Suri, Tom and Katie's 6-year-old daughter? Well, Katie wants full custody, which apparently comes with a hefty child support price tag.
