Perceptive Pixel, the manufacturer of big-screen multitouch displays such as the one used by CNN during special telecasts, has been acquired by Microsoft for an undisclosed sum, the two companies announced today.
New York-based Pixel had previously shown off massive multitouch displays running Windows 8 that can be used by multiple people simultaneously. Microsoft hopes to share its technology with other OEMs making devices to run the software.
“The acquisition of (Perceptive Pixel) allows us to draw on our complementary strengths, and we’re excited to accelerate this market evolution,” said Kurt DelBene, president of Microsoft's Office Division in a statement. "[Perceptive Pixel’s] large touch displays, when combined with hardware from our OEMs, will become powerful Windows 8-based PCs and open new possibilities for productivity and collaboration.”
