Looks like the rumors were true: According to MTV, Mariah Carey is in the process of finalizing a major deal to join American Idol next season as a new judge - in fact, "major" might be an understatement. Carey's deal is reported to be worth a whopping $17 million for just one season, making it larger than Britney Spears's reported $15 million to judge The X-Factor.
Still no word on who else may be joining the show to fill the seats left unoccupied by Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, or if Randy Jackson is going to defy all odds and leave his position of judge as well. At this rate, the casting news is getting more interesting than the actual show itself.
