Both Liam Neeson and Mark Wahlberg are contemplating deals to star in director Vincenzo Natali’s (Splice) adaptation of William Gibson’s 1984 sci-fi novel Neuromancer, according to Movie Hole. Wahlberg is up for the role of Case, the novel’s anti-hero, and Neeson would play Armitage, a former Green Beret who is losing his grasp on reality.

Despite these reports, the site was informed that, “Nobody has officially signed for the project, but the offers are on the table.” Hollywood has been trying to get an adaptation of Neuromancer off the ground for decades, and it looks like the project is closer than ever to becoming a reality.

For those interested, Gibson’s original novel is credited for being at the forefront of the cyberpunk movement, and it is one of the premier works of science fiction. So before the film hits theaters, we suggest you pick up the book and see for yourself why it has endured for so long.
