Android is about to get some competition in the open source mobile operating systems game from the guys at Mozilla, who have been hard at work building an alternative called Firefox OS for some time now. While the new OS is still being developed and is officially under wraps, Peter Judge at Tech Week Europe has obtained several screenshots of it in action, a few of which you can see above.

So far, looks good. The interface should be instantly recognizable to anyone who's used Android or iOS, which is probably not a bad strategy. And yet, to our eyes, it's actually cleaner and more elegant in some ways than its Google competitor, utilizing neat circles instead of squares for icons.

Mozilla has released a statement saying these screenshots are not of the most current iteration of Firefox OS, but if they're any indication of the final product, we can't wait to see more.
