According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ed Helms is in talks to star in a reboot of the classic Vacation franchise from the '80s and '90s over at New Line. In the movie, Helms will play Rusty Griswold, the oldest son from the original movie series. He will be traveling with his own family on a vacation that we're sure is going to be filled with plenty of toilet humor and a dead relative or two strapped to the roof of the car.
The Vacation series began in 1983 with the Harold Ramis-directed National Lampoon's Vacation. From there the franchise spawned three sequels: European Vacation (1985), Christmas Vacation (1989), and Vegas Vacation (1997).
All four movies starred Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo, but the children were often recast in each of them. This new entry into the franchise will begin filming when Helms is done with the next season of The Office in the spring.
