Dish Network Has Dropped AMC For the Foreseeable Future

Awful timing.

With the premiere of Breaking Bad looming - July 15th! - this news couldn't have come at a worse time for Dish Network subscribers: According to The LA Times, the satellite broadcasters have dropped AMC as an offered channel due to negotiations over, what else, money. Dish claims that this is because AMC has so many awesome shows plus The Killing, so the price of the network was getting too high for Dish, and they chose to drop it. This means that about 14 million homes have lost access to the network, with no signs of change for the foreseeable future.

On the other side, AMC is claiming Dish has dropped them over an ongoing lawsuit, as in 2008 they sued the satellite broadcasters for breach of contract over a distribution agreement. In a statement, the network elaborated, "Dish customers have lost some of their favorite shows because of an unrelated lawsuit which has nothing at all to do with our programming...in fact, Dish has not discussed rates with us at all."
