Could Coachella Be Homeless After Next Year?

This is alarming.

None

With a potential tax on entrants to large festivals a possibility, Coachella might be moving out of Indio, Calif. The Desert Sun obtained several texts between Goldenvoice vice president Skip Paige and an Indio official discussing a 5 to 10 percent tax on tickets for events that draw over 2,500 people.

So, what does that mean for you and your wallet? Oh, just another $36 per ticket. It would cost Goldenvoice between $4 million and $6 million, which they probably don’t want to pay, meaning the festival would need a new location. City Council refuses to vote on the tax, but Councilman Sam Torres might try to add it to November’s ballot.

If the tax is approved, next year would most likely be the last for Coachella in Indio. Truth be told, we can’t really picture a new home for one of the coolest places of the Complex decade.
