One of the most contentious rumors circulating about the next iPhone is that the 30-pin dock connector that's been used since the first iPod will be replaced with a smaller, space-saving connector. If this happens, virtually every iPhone/iPod accessory will not be compatible with the new iPhone. However, according to a report from iMore, Apple will offer an adapter that will make all new iPhones compatible with devices like speaker docks and chargers that use the 30-pin dock connector.

TechCrunch first reported about the possibility of a smaller dock connector early this year. And today Reuters became the first large news company to report that the next iPhone will indeed sport a smaller, 19-pin dock connector "to make room for the earphone moving to the bottom."
