Even though Comic-Con has closed up shop for the year, Marvel is still making news this week as The Hollywood Reporter has broken the story that Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) is in negotiations to play Sam Wilson, aka the Falcon, in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. If he accepts the role, Mackie will join Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan, who will be playing the Winter Soldier, in this blockbuster sequel directed by Joe and Anthony Russo

As one of the company's first African American heroes, the Falcon served as Captain America's partner for a number of years in the comics. Thanks to a specially designed power suit, Wilson has the ability to fly and possesses enhanced durability. But most notably he shares a psychic link with his pet falcon, Redwing. This link allows him to see through the bird's eyes so he can gather information from around the city when it is in flight.

We'll be sure to update this story when/if Mackie's deal becomes official.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier will hit theaters on April 4, 2014.
