Author: Raymond Carver
Released: 1981
Genre: Short story collection

Widely acknowledged as a master of the short story, Raymond Carver specialized in sparse, lean, yet immensely impactful tales about working-class people, and What We Talk About When We Talk About Love, his second collection, is the man at his unapologetic best. One of the 17 included stories, in fact, titled "Why Don't You Dance?," was the source behind the underrated 2010 Will Ferrell dramedy Everything Must Go.

Fun Fact: One of Carver's earliest jobs was that of a textbook editor for the Palo Alto, CA, company Science Research Associates, a personality-deficient gig that, unsurprisingly, he was fired from because of his unsuitable writing style.
