Author: Douglas Adams
Genre: Science fiction
Some might opt for Mel Brooks' Spaceballs, but, for our money, the funniest piece of absurdist science fiction ever conceived is Douglas Adams' five-novel series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, all of which are collected here, in this one-stop-shop of intergalactic silliness. Spacebound travelers Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect get into all kinds of ridiculous shenanigans, contending with beastly aliens and the ramifications of time travel while thirsting for fresh tea and awkwardly laughing their way through it all.
Fun Fact: Adams, a highly respected humorist, is only of two people who aren't a part of Monty Python to receive a writing credit on the infamous British comedy troupe's sketch show Monty Python's Flying Circus.
