Speaking at an investor conference, AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson told the audience, “I’d be surprised if, in the next 24 months, we don’t see people in the marketplace with data-only plans.” He also suggested that toll-free plans—in which content providers are on the hook for data consumption and not customers—could arrive even sooner. “The content guys are asking for it,” he said, which could mean the end of tiered plans and data caps for consumers.
