Crossing a milestone that should help to roll back one of the principle marks against it, Windows Phone can now claim over 100,000 apps in its marketplace.
Launched just 20 months ago, Windows Phone has grown at an impressive rate of 313 apps per day. That's faster than Android, which took a full 24 months to reach the same milestone, but slower than iOS, which hit 100k in just 16 months after the launch of the App Store.
Establishing a large variety of apps—and high quality, distinctive ones at that—has been vital to Microsoft's quest to turn Windows Phone into the third great mobile OS. And while its growth rate has been impressive so far, Windows Phone still has a long ways to go to catch up. iOS has notched over 725,000 apps at this point, and Google Play has more than 450,000.
