Vacation destination: Mongibello, Italy
It's hard to imagine that a holiday on the Italian coast could be anything but blissful, particularly when you're as rich and attractive as Dickie (Law) and his girlfriend (Paltrow), but even wealth has its limitations.
Dickie's lavish lifestyle incites the envy of Ripley (Damon) who has been hired by his father to convince him to end his extended vacation abroad. What pop couldn't have predicted is that, as Ripley becomes immersed in Dickie's life, he doesn't just want to retrieve Dickey, he wants to take on his identity, and is deceptive enough to successfully pull it off.
We would hold the scheme against him, but after watching Law's impeccably dressed character cavort with Paltrow on the beach, going from sailboat to vespa without a care in the world, Ripley's motivations aren't exactly hard to fathom.
