After a somewhat inconsistent debut season, AMC's The Walking Dead impressed us during its second season by featuring an engrossing plot, improved characters, plenty of shocking twists, and countless mangled corpses along the way. And thankfully, it doesn't look like the show is going to let up any time soon.
Season 3 will introduce audiences to one of the most memorable, and insidious, characters from Robert Kirkman's original comic book run: The Governor. Played by David Morrissey in the show, The Governor is the ultra-violent leader of the Woodbury settlement who becomes one of the most feared villains of the entire comic book series. And courtesy of TV Guide, we have our first look at Morrissey in the role. Even though his appearance is a bit different than his comic counterpart, we're confident that his personality won't get lost in translation.
"The Governor in the show is definitely going to be The Governor in the comic," Kirkman told TV Guide earlier in the year. "I think that he's definitely going to be a character that people love to hate and are absolutely entertained by, but also somewhat terrified of. He's definitely going to be a very important character and a very nuanced character. We are not going to be watering him down."
Sounds good to us. Take a look at David Morrissey as The Governor below.
