"Super Modern Mario Bros." is a Literal Interpretation of the NES Classic

Would a Goomba disappear after getting jumped on? No, he'd get squashed into lots of little pieces.

Special effect designers Blumasters recreated the first level of Super Mario Bros, putting the entire level in a three-dimensional perspective and adding a very literal interpretation of the game. When Mario jumps on a Goomba, it crumbles into pieces of bone and leaves a pool of blood. When he hits one with a fireball, it actually goes up in flames.

Instead of the game's iconic music, we footsteps and sound effects. As a commentary on the fundementally violent nature of video games, it seems a bit over the top: I doubt anyone saw Mario jumping on enemies and imagined them getting crushed to bloody bits. Then again, maybe that's the problem.

Either way, the effects are pretty amazing. Give it a look, and tell us what you think about it.
