Perhaps the fact that RIM had lost even its native Canadian market was the writing on the wall. The BlackBerry manufacturer might be looking to cash in its chips and call it a day on the handset front, according to The Sunday Times. The company is strongly considering dividing its handset manufacturing and messaging network into two new businesses and selling off the former to a company that might be in the market for its own phones, like an Amazon or Facebook. RIM would hold onto BBM and the like because of potential licensing opportunities.
