Republican Primaries Were the Inspiration for This Season of "True Blood," Apparently

So if it's terrible, you can blame it the GOP.

None

If you have any qualms with the current season of True Blood, you can apparently blame it all on the Republicans because, according to series creator and showrunner Alan Ball, they were the inspiration.

While explaining the process of planning season five, Ball told The Wrap: "For me the jumping off point was watching the Republican primaries, watching Michele Bachmann, Rick Santorum, and asking what would it be like  to have a theocracy in America – which is way more terrifying than any fictional monster could ever be." And as for newcomer Christopher Meloni's character? He "comes in, he is the guardian of the blood. Supposedly they have a vial of blood of the first vampire – like a Catholic icon. The governing body of vampires is like the Catholic church plus the Supreme Court for vampires," Ball explained. "But it’s a very secret organization."

So, yeah, if these season is terrible, it is basically all Rick Santorum's fault. This is why we can't have nice things.
