North Carolina Religious Leader Avoids Death Penalty After Homophobic Murder

Disgusting.

Last June, the leader of a religious group murdered a woman and a 4-year-old boy. Yesterday, 28-year-old Peter Moses Jr., entered a guilty plea for killing 28-year-old Antoinetta McKoy and Jadon Higganbothan to avoid the death penalty. Higganbothan, who was not related to McKoy, was allegedly killed for acting “gay.” Again, Jadon was only 4.

The Black Hebrews, of which Moses was a member, believe that they are direct descendants of an ancient tribe from Israel, and Moses was convinced Higganbothan was gay, something unaccetable to the Black Hebrews. Moses reportedly shot the boy in a garage in front of his mother. Police believe McKoy was killed after trying to escape the group, who believed she would tell police about the crime.

Six other members of the Black Hebrews were indicted along with Moses, but they have yet to enter pleas.
