Medlab Dental, of New Zealand's University of Otago Dental Hospital, is sweating bullets after removing part of a woman's jaw after erroneously telling her that she had cancer of the mouth. The mix-up happened after a pathologist confused two samples that were dropped on the floor.
So, instead of receiving treatment for swelling cause by a tooth implant, the 63-year-old patient had bone and blood vessels removed from her leg to help reconstruct a jaw that never should've been removed. Now, she struggles to walk.
Despite apologies from the hospital, the woman lawyered up. It was the right thing to do.
