Just a few days ago, Bloody Disgusting posted a very ominous story that claimed Lionsgate/Summit Entertainment was contemplating rebooting the Twilight franchise a mere four years after the original installment hit theaters. The site also reported that the studio was considering producing either a direct sequel or spinoff to the main series as well.
"They’ll deny it, right here, right now. We’ll get plenty of eggs in our face. Sites will burn us at the stake like a witch during the Salem trials. Still, the fact will remain: it’s true," said the writer for the site, who goes under the guise of Mr. Disgusting.
As he predicted, Lionsgate came out within days and denied the rumors over at Deadline.
”We are not remaking Twilight. We will happily support Stephanie Meyer [sic] if she decides to proceed in any way. But this will be the last one unless that should change," said Summit Co-Chairman and now Lionsgate domestic movie czar Rob Friedman.
If you dig deep enough behind that denial, there might be some validity to what Bloody Disgusting is reporting. Friedman says that the studio will happily support Twilight author Meyer if she decides to proceed in any way with a reboot. And, according to Deadline, she has gone on record during some interviews and stated that she wouldn't mind seeing a reboot of the movies in the future.
We have a feeling that this November's The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 won't be the last that we see of the franchise on the big screen.
