Yesterday Instagram rolled out version 2.5 for iOS, the first update to the app since it was acquired by Facebook back in April. While the new version doesn't feature any huge changes, it does introduce some modifications that should further refine and streamline the Instagram experience.

First, the old "Popular" tab in the bottom navigation bar has been replaced by a new "Explore" option, which still highlights popular images but also incorporates a search bar where you can search for specific users or tags.

The "Profile" tab has also been revamped, and now defaults to displaying your actual profile page with your profile photo, contact info, follower/following numbers and grid of photographs. Strangely, the profile page used to be buried under "Your photos" in a text-heavy list of menu options.

Instagram 2.5 also enables users to share their likes directly to Facebook via the Open Graph. This option defaults to off, but you can turn it on by going to Profile > Sharing Settings > Facebook.

iOS users will find the new version of Instagram in their App Store updates.
