Google Wants To Expand Range Of Domain Names To Include .lol, More

Moving beyond the world of .coms.

None

First, adult sites were given .xxx domains beyond the usual .coms. Now, Google wants to make everything more easily categorized, filing a request with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) for the use of domains such as .google, .docs, .youtube, and .lol. According to the application, .youtube, for instance, would improve user experience by increasing “the ease with which YouTube channels and genres can be identified.” As for the likes of .lol, Google just thinks they have “interesting and creative potential.”
