We're not sure this thought has ever crossed anyone's mind, but in case you were ever wondering which NFL teams match up to the bloodlines in Game of Thrones, you're in luck, because George R. R. Martin has an answer for you. In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, the author of the bestselling book series behind the HBO show commented that, because "there are always the nerds who, though not jocks, are still into sports," he had determined certain parallels behind the books and the NFL.
So, who's who? Apparently, the Lannisters are the Patriots, Loras Tyrell is Mark Sanchez, and "the Starks are heroes, so they would be the Giants." Additionally, he believes the next installment in his series, The Wind of Winters, will likely be released before the Jets ever win another Superbowl: "I have to have the next book out in less than five years. And I think the Jets have taken a step back."
So...would that make them the Targaryens?
