DJ Green Arrow (UZN)(@djgreenarrow on Twitter ) donated this very thoughtful contribution to CHHC. I wonder if the brother knew that "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" would be trumped by YoutTube, Twitter, and iPhone video cameras, or if he knew that "Whitey On The Moon" would remain so timely in the year of his death? One of the most interesting things about Gil Scott-Heron was that after the '70s, most of his performances were made up of his incredible songwriting and vocals, though many associate him exclusively with poetry. Interesting how remembering harmony and melody can trump remembering the power in simple words, even for the author of said words. Luckily for me, I get to perform AS Mr. Gil Scott-Heron on July 20, 2012 at Peace Go With You, Gil at Great performances in LA. Big shoes. Big honor. For the details, check the upcoming flyers at the end of this column.
