What's the worst that could happen to a man of the law around re-election time? Yup, racial controversy. AtlantaSheriff Roger Garrison is trying to stomp out the flames caused by photos of him wearing a Ku Klux Klan costume at a 1980s Halloween party.

"I don't deny it was stupid, looking back now,” Garrison said of the photos, but added that he shouldn't be judged for a "stupid mistake made nearly 30 years ago. "What 21 or 22 year-old in this world hasn't made some stupid mistakes?"

Garrison says he does not support the white supremacist group, and that he and a friend were paying homage to a scene from the Mel Brooks classic Blazing Saddles. Still, with Garrison's pending re-election just a month away, this is bad timing. Also, regardless of how racist you claim you aren't, that infamous white hood will always scream "I'm racist."
