Writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Star Trek, Transformers, Amazing Spider-Man 2) have officially signed on with Universal Pictures to write and produce a Mummy revival, along with a reboot of the Van Helsing franchise with Tom Cruise attached to star in it.
2004’s Van Helsing was directed by Stephen Sommers and starred Hugh Jackman, and was seen as a critical and commercial disappointment. And The Mummy series has been pretty much irrelevant for the better part of a decade. It will be interesting to see how Universal will reinvent both franchises and present them in a way that audiences actually want to see.
