In the wake of the Travyvon Martin case, 20th Century Fox has renamed the upcoming Ben Stiller comedy from Neighborhood Watch to simply The Watch. Thankfully, that's the only thing the studio changed about the movie because if this new red-band trailer is any indication, The Watch is going to be one of the summer's filthiest comedies.
In the movie, Stiller, Jonah Hill, Richard Ayoade, and Vince Vaughn play members a local neighborhood watch squad tasked with fighting off an alien invasion. It's similar to Men in Black, but instead of selling Ray Bans, The Watch goes on long diatribes about condoms and penis size. No doubt this is a high-concept comedy, but the talent involved here has proven that they can make just about anything funny at this point.
Another reason to have high hopes for this movie is because the script was written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. We're still not entirely sold on the alien elements of the movie, but if those parts are as funny as the scenes where the main cast is just sitting around and talking inside of Costco, then this could wind up being one of the sleeper hits of the summer.
The Watch hits theaters on July 27.
