The Director of "Chronicle" is Working on a "Shadow of the Colossus" Movie

Is the classic art game big screen material?

Before Katniss, there was Wander.

Video games don't have the greatest track record when it comes to their film adaptation counterparts, but is that because Hollywood is focusing on the wrong games?

Word is Josh Trask, the director of the original superhero film Chronicle, has been tasked with developing an adaptation of Shadow of the Colossus, the understated but beloved 2005 art game about a young boy who slays 16 colossal beasts to resurrect his girlfriend.

Considering the game's script is probably about a half page long, it may seem like an odd choice for the silver screen treatment. On the other hand, the game is so damn beautiful that we could just sit around watching someone else play it for days.

The project has actually been in and out of development since 2009, but Trask and Sony are reportedly looking for a new writer to kick things off. And Trask is apparently also working on other projects, including Fantastic Four at Fox,The Red Star at Warner Bros., and Venom at Columbia/Sony, so there's doubt as to whether a Shadow of the Colossus film would actually make it past this stage of pre-development limbo.

Do you think the essence of Shadow of the Colossus could survive the changes necessary for it to be turned into a blockbuster film? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter.
