Mitchell Guist, one half of the alligator-hunting Guist Brothers from History Channel'sSwamp People, passed away earlier today on a Louisiana river after suffering what appears to be a seizure on his boat, according to WBRZ Louisiana. According to the statement made by Sheriff Mike Waguespack, Guist appeared to suffer a fall in the boat shortly after it took off on the Belle River around 9 a.m. 911 was called, but all attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Since its debut, Swamp People has become one of History Channel's most popular shows, and Guist played a large part in its success. Along with his brother, Glen, Guist made a name for himself by hunting alligators, fishing, knocking back a few cold ones, and introducing city audiences to life outdoors.

There has been no official cause of death and, obviously, no statement on the show's future as of yet. We'll be sure to report any new details that surface as this story continues to unfold. In the meantime, check out this video of Mitchell Guist that The Hollywood Reporter posted.
