Tucson-based manufacturer Spectral Instruments doesn’t build cameras that one would consider “standard.” Usually, their products are unlike anything else on the market. Case in point: its new 110 series is a 112-megapixel behemoth that lacks any sort of filter, so image quality is pretty much as sharp as you’ll get. Even crazier is its light-sensitive 95 x 95 mm sensor—compared to the typical DSLR range of 24 x 36 mm—that allows for a nighttime sky to be photographed during daytime hours.
Priced at around $100,000 for the sensor alone, the camera isn’t exactly readily available beyond research facilities, but Spectral wants to get the device in the hands of consumers to fully test its capabilities.
