Last summer, The Smurfs came along and proved all of the naysayers wrong by pulling in over $500 million worldwide, so it wasn't a surprise when it was announced that Smurfs 2 was in development over at Columbia Pictures. What is surprising, though, is that the studio is already developing Smurfs 3, according to Variety.
The movie will be written by Over the Hedge writers Karey Kirkpatrick and Chris Poche, and it will be produced by the man behind the first two Smurfs films, Jordan Kerner. But before anyone can start thinking about a third Smurfs movie, remember we still have Smurfs 2 to deal with on July 31, 2013. The fact that this could conceivably wind up as one of the most successful trilogies in recent Hollywood history just boggles the mind.
