If you ever find yourself in Fort Lee, New Jersey, be warned: The city is cracking down on all those crazy kids who text while they walk, and are now issuing tickets to anyone caught doing it.

There is some method to this madness: Apparently, 20 people have been hit by cars due to jaywalking and people just generally not paying attention to their surroundings. Texting, Police Chief Thomas Ripoli, commented, is a distraction. "Pedestrians aren't watching where they're going. They're not aware."

Though the crackdown is more geared towards catching jaywalkers, those caught texting while walking are subject to tickets too - each with an $85 fine.
