THQ announced yesterday that Naughty Dog co-founder Jason Rubin will be the new president of THQ. As a of the driving force behind one of gaming's most prestigious studios, THQ is hoping that Rubin will be able to thread the needle that is creating a studio that can make games that are both critically acclaimed and profitable.
"Jason's proven track record in the industry speaks for itself, and he is one of the brightest minds in the business," said THQ CEO Brian Farell.
As Rubin joins the THQ family, another of its key players, senior vice president of core games Danny Bilson, will take his leave. Bilson has been responsible for transitioning THQ from a studio primarily in the business of churning out games based on TV and film licenses to one the supported by a cadre of original AAA franchises, including Darksiders and Saint's Row.
Bilson has also been responsible for signing deals to publish new IPs from successful gamemakers, including Assassin's Creed series creator Patrice Desilet, and Left 4 Dead developer Turtle Rock, both of which are still currently in development.
