After the massive success of Avengers over the past few weeks, you would think that director Joss Whedon would be a sure thing to return for the inevitable sequel. However, in an interview with The Los Angeles Times, Whedon made it sound like nothing has been set in stone quite yet. Check out what Whedon had to say about returning for the sequel:

None

Unlike most directors in Hollywood, Whedon genuinely sounds like he might want to go off on his own and put some more original ideas up on the screen. He has done so in the past with Serenity, but unfortunately that movie failed to draw in an audience. But now that he can put "From the director of Avengers" on the posters and trailers for all of his upcoming movies, we're pretty sure that any project Whedon dives into will sell.

Personally, we think he'll return for another stab at the Avengers franchise. There are too many stories left to be told and too much money at stake. But wouldn't it be nice to get more original movies coming out instead of being bombarded by sequels?
