"Injustice" is a DC Comics Fighting Game From The Makers of "Mortal Kombat"

This sounds like a much better idea than "Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe"

Warner Bros Interactive announced today that NetherRealm Studios, makers of Mortal Kombat, are working on a DC Universe-themed fighting game, Injustice: Gods Among Us.

The game has a decidedly darker tone than you might expect from a Justice League game. The game is set in a version of the DC Universe "where the lines between good and evil are blurred." Then again, the game is coming from the makers of the bloodiest fighting series on the block: If they show Superman getting disemboweled, then they can at least ruffle his feathers a little bit.

The website exists, but doesn't have a whole lot to tell. The game's newly minted Facebook page, however, gives a clear shot at some stoic-looking heroes and villains. It looks like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Harley Quinn, and Solomon Grundy will all join the roster. Warner Bros hasn't released a hard character count, but claims the game will have a large roster.

The trailer, which comes courtesy of Gamespot, shows exactly for what you're hoping for: A game that looks very similar to last year's Mortal Kombat, but with fighters capable of punching each other into outer space. Needless to say, the game is trying its hardest to make the fights feel truly epic.

We may see more of Injustice at E3 next week, but don't expect to be playing the game any time soon. The Justice League will bring the fight to Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U in 2013.
