GoPro’s HERO cam is pretty much the only easy-to-use consumer device that can shoot virtually in any condition—like, say, atop a snowboarder’s helmet as he outraces an avalanche.
Yet, underwater filming has long proved to be its one major limitation, as the HD imaging suffered a bit in such environments. With the release of the new, $50 Dive Housing unit, any HERO model old and new can now retain its normal capabilities at a depth of up to 197 feet. That certainly beats dropping $5k for a housing unit for a DSLR.
