The second season of HBO’s Game of Thrones debuted less than two months ago, and it’s already racked up 25 million torrent downloads, making it 2012’s most pirated TV show thus far. According to Forbes, the show even saw as much as 2.5 million downloads in a single day.

The numbers make sense given the popularity of the books upon which the series is based. Not to mention, the new episodes are only legally available online at HBO Go. To offset this, HBO would be smart to go the Mad Men route of upping new episodes to iTunes for individual purchase a day after airing.

Though there is a silver lining for HBO through it all: the downloads seem to be driving Season 1 DVD sales.
