Legend has it that the climbing perch can survive out of water for seven hours due to an organ that lets it breathe atmospheric oxygen. That’s pretty awesomeuntil the little survivor jumps down your throat, as it did to a 12-year-old Malaysian boy. Philip Muan was trying to kill the fish by biting its head at 9 a.m. The fish slid into his mouth, and remained there until 11 p.m.

The kid was spitting up blood by the time he finally made it to the hospital, 14 hours after the initial encounter. The fish had long since died, leaving one of the worst odors imaginable in the boy’s mouth. The dead fish was removed after a quick procedure.
