It’s graduation season, and the last thing any student wants to hear is that they’re being kicked out of school for bad grades. Through some inexplicable mistake, the entire Eastern Michigan University student body was rocked by that scare last Friday after mistakenly receiving letters saying they all go the boot.
The email was only intended for 100 students, but all 23,000 students got the heart attack-inducing message saying “any enrollment for upcoming terms will be cancelled and you will be ineligible to register for classes.” The email was signed by Associate Director of Academic Advising Molly Weir, but neither she nor anyone above her had an explanation.
School President Susan Martin expressed her regrets for the false alarm, promising students that the matter is under investigation. Though on the opposite end of the spectrum, is this worse than wrongly telling students they’ve been accepted?
