After pulling in an impressive $80 million on Friday, The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that The Avengers has made an astonishing $200.3 million in its opening weekend, absolutely shattering the previous record of $169.2 million held by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part II.
This brings the movie's worldwide total up to $641.8 million, which is already more than Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor, and The Incredible Hulk made during their entire run. It will be interesting to see if Marvel/Disney will stick with its current plans of expanding its movie universe, or if the blockbuster box office of Avengers will fast-track a sequel into production. At this point, it's hard to see another movie outperforming Avengers this year.
