YouTube has struck a deal with Paramount Pictures, bringing 500 titles from the studio to the streaming site for rental. Classics such as The Godfather and Coming to America are available for 48-hour streaming at only $3.99 per film (for HD), while new releases such as Hugo run a dollar more for the same time block.

It’s an odd partnership since YouTube is currently in a legal fight with Paramount’s parent company, Viacom, as a result of piracy concerns. But the conglomerate has little choice but to play ball with YT as it continues to bolster its position as a one-stop destination for all things video. Sure, YT will always retain its viral, UGC ethos with cat breading clips and the like, but as its premium content channels suggest, the platform is quickly maturing into a possible destination for TV-quality programming.
