The sci-fi action flick, Lockout, might not open in theaters until Friday, but Luc Besson'sEuropaCorp has released the first five minutes of the film online. Starring Guy Pearce and directed by James Mather and Stephen St. Leger, Lockout is about a government agent trying to clear his name after being convicted of a crime that he didn't commit. In order to get his freedom, he agrees to rescue the President's kidnapped daughter from a prison in space that has been overtaken by the criminals inside of it.

The plot itself is full of pure action movie clichés, and this extended clip does little to prove otherwise. However, there are moments of genuine humor and suspense in this clip that suggest that Lockout could have the same type of tongue-in-cheek tone as 2007's cult-classic Shoot 'Em Up.

If it plays up the clichés properly, never takes itself too seriously, and keeps everything over-the-top, Lockout could easily be a sleeper hit as we wait for the onslaught of summer blockbusters to begin.

Lockout hits theaters on April 13.
