Most MMOs deliver as much content as they can as quickly as possible for fear of losing the perfunctory attention of gamers, but Red 5 is taking a different approach with their upcoming MMO shooter Firefall.

They're implementing something called staged content, or as Extra Credits calls them, "awesome story unlocks". Players will have to work together to unlock portions of the world, which will hopefully allow them to feel more ownership over and affinity to the game.

The free-to-play MMOF/TPS could be a great take on doing loot-based shooters—it reminds us of Borderlands. Do you think the unlockable story events and locations will have the effect they're hoping for? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter.
