20. Harry Lime is alive and well.
Movie: The Third Man (1949)
Writer: Graham Greene
It's only a matter of time before Hollywood remakes The Third Man, the classic of spy-infused suspense featuring the great Orson Welles and a nifty reveal that, unlike most of the twists on this countdown, happens in the middle of the story, not the end.
Main character Holly Martins (Joseph Cotton) heads to Vienna to attend the funeral of an old friend named Harry Lime (Welles), who Martins believes was killed in a car wreck. A beautifully photographed shot, however, shows Lime hiding in the shadows, his smirking face lit up by an overhead street-bulb—Lime had faked his own death after a bunch of kids either died or became gravely sick from using watered down drugs he helped to distribute.
