Shigeru Miyamoto likes Angry Birds.

Despite the fact that thousands of classic gaming fans are probably throwing a fit of rage as we speak, the fact remains: The creator of Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda, and Star Fox counts the mobile hit among his favorite phone games. Miyamoto spoke with Hookshot Inc. about his mobile gaming habits in Paris after unveiling the new 3DS tour guides at the Louvre in Paris.

"Angry Birds is a very simple idea but it’s one of those games that I immediately appreciated when I first started playing, before wishing that I had been the one to come up with the idea first."

In fact, Miyamoto went so far as saying he wished he had come with the idea himself:

“I mean, obviously I want to be the one creating the most convincing, surprising game ideas."

Miyamoto added that he specifically loves the game's controls, specifically citing how the aiming seems loose at first, but becomes much more accurate as your skills improve. He also said the game would've been even better if it had been initially designed for the Nintendo DS instead of the iPhone.

Self-proclaimed "core" gamers have gained a reputation for vocally opposing vehicles for casual gaming, including Angry Birds. Will a ringing endorsement from a classic gaming icon cause some of the franchise's critics to change their tune?
